Mumbai: 4 Arrested In Kidnapping Of International Drug Trafficker Over MD Drug Dispute; Victim Rescued From Kanpur
Mumbai: In a dramatic turn of events, the Mumbai Crime Branch has rescued an international drug trafficker who was kidnapped from the city’s western suburbs over a financial dispute linked to the MD drug trade. Four men have been arrested so far in connection with the crime, and the victim was successfully recovered from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
About The Case
According to investigators, the kidnapped individual, Sajid Electricwala—suspected of running an international narcotics syndicate—was abducted along with his associate, an estate agent, with the intent to kill them. The abduction was reportedly orchestrated by gangster Sarwar Khan at the behest of the notorious underworld figure Chhota Shakeel’s brother.
Sources revealed that a seven- to eight-member gang abducted the duo from Mumbai and assaulted them at multiple undisclosed locations. The ordeal unfolded from a monetary dispute involving proceeds from MD drug deals.
One of the abducted men managed to escape from Navi Mumbai and contacted senior officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch. Acting swiftly, officials registered a case at Oshiwara Police Station under various serious charges and launched a manhunt to trace the culprits and ensure the safe return of the victim, who they believed was in immediate danger of being killed.
A special task force led by senior crime branch officers was formed to crack the case. This team succeeded in apprehending four suspects and tracking the primary victim to Kanpur, from where he was rescued. Late Tuesday night, the team began transporting the rescued victim and the arrested accused back to Mumbai.
Police are still on the lookout for the main accused, Sarwar Khan, and have expressed confidence that he will soon be arrested. Sajid Electricwala, the primary target of the abduction, was previously arrested by Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in 2015 in a multi-crore MD drug case. During his time in prison, he reportedly became acquainted with notorious gangster Harish Mandvilkar, who allegedly aided him while he was behind bars. Mandvilkar is also the main accused in the high-profile murder of Matka kingpin Ratan Khatri.
The investigation is ongoing, with Mumbai Police continuing to pursue the remaining members of the gang and working to dismantle the broader international drug network linked to the case.
