Watch: CM Eknath Shinde Takes Tesla Model Y For A Spin In Mumbai

A day after Tesla unveiled its first Indian showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was seen behind the wheel of a brand-new Tesla.

The test drive, which took place near the Mumbai Assembly on Wednesday, featured what appeared to be the Pearl White version of the Tesla Model Y.

Accompanied by his security team and surrounded by media crews, Shinde took the high-end electric vehicle for a brief spin. The car moved off slowly amid flashing cameras, with videos of the event quickly gaining traction online. The minister had also attended the launch of the Tesla showroom on the previous day.

Tesla Launches in India With Model Y Offerings

Tesla’s newly inaugurated showroom occupies a 4,000-square-foot space in the Maker Maxity Commercial Complex and features the brand’s signature black-on-white logo. With this launch, India becomes Tesla’s 50th global market. The company is offering two variants of its Model Y electric SUV—one with a 500 km range and another long-range option with up to 622 km per charge.

The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Model Y starts at Rs 59.89 lakh (approximately $69,650), while the long-range model is priced from Rs 67.89 lakh (roughly $78,950). In comparison, the same model retails for around $46,630 (approximately Rs 40 lakh) in the United States. The substantial price difference stems from India’s steep import duties ranging between 70 per cent and 110 per cent.
