A video allegedly showing a scorpion in halwa bought from the popular Santhi Sweets shop in Tirunelveli has gone viral on social media.
According to reports, a man named Sugandhanabu from Keezha Alaganachiarpuram village near Sankarankoil in Tenkasi district purchased a quarter-kilogram and a half-kilogram packet of halwa from Shanthi Sweets in Tirunelveli Junction on July 13.

After the video went viral, the owner of Shanthi Sweets denied the possibility of a scorpion being in their halwa, alleging a conspiracy to tarnish the company’s reputation. The owner further stated that he would file a police complaint regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, Tirunelveli District Food Safety Officer Pushparaj conducted a surprise inspection at Shanthi Sweets' manufacturing unit on Wednesday morning.
Following the inspection, food safety officials issued a notice demanding an explanation for the scorpion incident and gave Shanthi Sweets 15 days to respond. Officials also collected samples of the halwa for testing.
