Maharashtra Assembly: '420 Unauthorised Schools Found In Mumbai,' Says Education Minister Dada Bhuse

Mumbai, Jul 16: Maharashtra School Education Minister Dada Bhuse on Wednesday said there were 420 unauthorised schools in Mumbai, of which 47 have been shut down.

In a written reply to a query asked by Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav and others in the Lower House of the state legislature, he said 103 of these 420 schools have been penalised and 126 others were facing criminal cases. Bhuse said 1,057 aided and non-aided schools have been started in Mumbai with due permission.

Out of these 1,057 schools, 218 did not apply for renewal of their permission in 2022. Of these 218 schools, 211 have been granted permission under the Right to Education (RTE) and seven schools have been shut down, he added.

In a written reply to a question posed by Sneha Dube Pandit of the BJP, Bhuse said the process of setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the illegal inclusion of names as teaching and non-teaching staff in the school education department dashboard was underway.
