Lionel Messi's World Cup-Winning Teammate Rodrigo de Paul Set To Join Star Forward In Inter Miami: Reports

Argentinian footballer or Central mid-fielder Rodrigo de Paul is all set to ply his trade for Lionel Messi-starrer Inter Miami as reported by the news portal The Athletic. According to the report, de Paul is all set to join Inter Miami on a four-year deal but the final details are yet to be confirmed.

The seeds of the 31-year-old's shift to Major League Soccer (MLS) reportedly was sown during the recently-concluded FIFA Club World Cup, signalling De Paul's long-term interests. It will help Inter Miami's interests too as they look for a long-term player development and team him up with Messi, the star forward of the club.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Inter Miami made a proposal and Athletico Madrid accepted it. The Buenos Aires-born footballer joined Athletico Madrid in 2021 and has made 134 appearances for them, netting 11 goals. He has previously played for Racing Club and Udinese.

Meanwhile, Paris St, Germain (PSG) inflicted a humiliating 4-0 defeat on Inter Miami in their Round of 16 clash at the Mercedez Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Although Messi had played an instrumental role in Miami reaching until the Round of 16 but was ineffective against PSG.

After the win over Inter Miami, PSG manager Luis Enrique had said, as quoted by Sportstar:

"I’m very proud of my players. Today, you could see the difference in class, but football has given us the chance to compete. This is probably the best team in the world with a great coach, but we took them on."
