MC removes encroachments from Heritage Street, Mall Road
The Estate Wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation here on Wednesday conducted a special drive to remove encroachments from various parts of the city, including the Heritage Street, Mall Road, GT Road and Company Bagh.
Led by Estate Officer Dharminderjeet Singh, Inspector Aman Kumar and Arun Sahaj Pal, along with a police team, the operation aimed to clear roads and public spaces of illegal structures and stalls.
The team, acting under the directions of Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gulpreeet Singh Aulakh, seized goods and removed encroachments from Heritage Street, visited by thousands of tourists daily.
The team also confiscated unauthorised items placed under Bhandari Bridge, along with carts outside the historic Ram Bagh.
Senior administration officials including Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney and MC Commissioner Aulakh had visited the Heritage Street and took notice of the illegal encroachments, which not only were blocking the flow of traffic but also were an eyesore for the visitors from different parts of the country and abroad.
Joint Commissioner Jas Inder Singh said that the Municipal Corporation had received several complaints regarding illegal encroachments and had repeatedly appealed to residents to voluntarily remove them. The anti-encroachment drive will continue regularly, with the Joint Commissioner urging the public to remove unauthorized encroachments themselves to avoid seizure.
Singh said that the Municipal Corporation’s efforts aim to maintain public spaces and ensure smooth traffic flow, while also addressing concerns about public health and safety.
