Mining Bill among eight to be introduced in monsoon session
The government will try to seek Parliament’s nod for a resolution, seeking extension of President’s Rule in Manipur by another six months, during the upcoming monsoon session, which will start on July 21.
President’s rule was imposed in the strife-hit state on February 13 this year. The Centre would also seek House’s approval for demands of grants for the state for the year 2025-26.
Apart from this, eight new Bills will be introduced in the upcoming session. Key among these would be the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, which aims to foster ease of doing business and promote ease of living.
Other Bills that will be introduced in the House include the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, the Geo-heritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, the National Sports Governance Bill, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill.
The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill-2025 will provide for viable recovery of associated critical minerals.
Aimed at spreading awareness and facilitating tourism at geo-heritage sites, the Geo-heritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill-2025, will enable declaration, preservation, protection and maintenance of geo-heritage sites and geo-relics of national importance for geological studies, education and research.
Expected to replace the Manipur GST (Amendment) Ordinance, the Centre will introduce and try to pass the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The Bill seeks to amend the Manipur GST Act, 2017, to avoid repugnancy with the central Act. The month-long monsoon session will culminate on August 21.
