Karnal Mayor, MLAs flag poor state of green belts before CM
In a bid to resolve civic issues in Karnal, four MLAs and the Mayor met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
The delegation highlighted various issues pertaining to the Karnal Municipal Corporation (MC) and urban infrastructure. During the meeting, they said immediate intervention was necessary to ensure the smooth execution of several important works.
Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, Indri MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap, Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi, Assandh MLA Yogendra Rana and former BJP officiating district president Brij Gupta congratulated the CM for Karnal being selected for a presidential award for being among the cleanest cities of the country.
The CM will receive the award from President Droupadi Murmu on July 17 at a national-level programme in New Delhi.
The Mayor said they had pointed out that green belts developed by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) along National Highway-44; sectors 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9; and Transport Nagar were in poor condition.
Several areas had been encroached upon, with people constructing illegal pathways and breaking boundary walls. The footpaths in these green belts were damaged, they added, urging the CM to direct the HSVP to remove encroachments and ensure proper upkeep in the area, including the repair of footpaths.
“The MC had asked the HSVP to approve a street vending zone near the main gate of Atal Park in Sector 9, but the approval is still pending. In the absence of a designated zone, 30-35 street vendors occupy the area, causing obstructions and discomfort to park visitors, especially women. The CM was requested to expedite HSVP’s approval to establish the vending zone,” she said.
Anand said they had also raised the issue of the non-functional e-tendering portal.
“The auction of over 150 plots in Phase-1 of the Karna Canal market is on hold due to the non-functional e-tendering portal. The MC has written to the Directorate in this regard, urging necessary action. We request the CM to instruct higher officials to operationalise the e-tendering portal at the earliest,” Anand added.
He said the issue of obstacles in the development of Karna Canal phases 2 and 3 was also raised before the CM.
