Man held for selling liquor

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a man on the charge of selling illegal liquor. Investigating Officer Puran Singh said 20 bottles of illegally produced liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Rupindar Ram, a resident of Umarewal village. A case was registered against the accused.

Man duped of Rs 15.65 lakh

Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked an NRI couple and a woman travel agent on the charge of allegedly duping a Shahkot resident of Rs 15.65 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Nakodar DSP Sukhpal Singh said the accused were identified as Michal, a resident of Birmingham, England, his wife Kiran Masih, and Manjit Kaur of Sarihn village, presently residing at Guru Arjan Dev Colony in Malrri village. Manreet Singh, alias Mattu, of Talwandi Madho village in Shahkot complained to the Jalandhar (Rural) SSP that he paid the amount to the accused for facilitating his migration to England. However, neither did the accused send him abroad, nor did they return his money. The DSP said a case was registered against the accused.
