Op Sampark: Police rally public support against drugs
DGP (Special) Railways, Shashi Prabha Dwivedi, held a public meeting on Wednesday at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School, Sultanwind Road, as part of Operation Sampark.
Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, along with other senior police officials, school staff, students and local residents, also attended the event.
During the meeting, police officials invited suggestions from attendees on how to eradicate the drug menace in the state and also listened to their grievances. The DGP directed concerned officials to ensure timely resolution of the issues raised.
In her address, DGP Dwivedi emphasised that, in line with the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, the Punjab Police are taking strict legal action against drug traffickers. She said under Operation Sampark, meetings are being held in public spaces and educational institutions to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
She informed participants that individuals caught in the cycle of addiction are being admitted to de-addiction centres, motivated to quit drugs and supported in their recovery. She urged the attendees to actively support the ongoing anti-drug campaign.
Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that citizens can report information about drug dealers or other anti-social elements through the police helpline at 112 or the Amritsar City Police Control Room at 77101-04818. He assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential and that the police would take prompt action based on the information received.
