Heavy Rain, Flash Floods and Landslides Warning For Jammu Kashmir Till This Date
The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslide risks over the coming days.
According to Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers across several parts of the Union Territory from July 16–17 and again from July 21–23.
“Intense showers and isolated incidents of heavy to very heavy rainfall are likely during these periods,” Dr Ahmad said, urging residents and local authorities to stay vigilant.
Between July 18–20, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is also expected, with occasional thundershower activity likely to continue across the region.
Flash Floods, Landslides and Travel Disruptions Likely
The advisory issued by the MET Centre Srinagar warns of potentially intense downpours at isolated locations, which may trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, particularly in vulnerable areas and hilly terrain, including along key highways.
People living in flood-prone or landslide-prone zones have been advised to avoid non-essential travel, while administrative authorities have been urged to stay on alert and implement precautionary measures to ensure public safety and minimise disruption.
Rainfall Brings Relief, But Risks Remain
The advisory comes as Jammu and Kashmir has already been witnessing rainfall over the past two days, offering some respite from the recent heatwave.
