Varanasi's Namo Ghat Submerges As Ganga Water Level Rises Amid IMD Yellow Alert: Watch
Incessant rains in several parts of north India, including Uttar Pradesh, have swollen the river Ganga in many places. The river, considered the lifeline of people in North India, is flowing above the danger mark and continues to rise in cities like Prayagraj and Varanasi.
The Namo Ghat in Varanasi was seen flooded as the river was in full spate amid the ongoing monsoon season. Heavy rain lashed the holy Hindu town the entire day on Wednesday, recording a rainfall of 40 millimetres, according to local media reports.
As per several reports, all 84 ghats in the city have been completely submerged, interrupting regular religious practices and riverside activities.
On Wednesday, Varanasi recorded the maximum temperature at 28.9 degrees Celsius, about 5 degrees below normal. Whereas, the minimum temperature was 2.5 degrees below normal at 24 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in the city with a prediction of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

Prayagraj also witnessed a similar situation, houses inundated as water entered the lower regions of the city. Despite several steps taken by the authorities, people are facing difficulty in commuting from one place to another.
Water from the river Ganga has also entered the Bade Hanuman Mandir in Prayagraj.
Heavy showers are lashing several other parts of North India, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.
On Thursday, the Amarnath Yatra was suspended from Jammu following a weather advisory warning of heavy rain in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The move came a day after a woman pilagrim died and three sustained injuries in a landslide along the Baltal route of the yatra in Ganderbal district.
This is the first time the pilgrimage to the Aamrnath shrine has been suspended from Jammu this season.
