Madhuri Dixit was born on 15 May 1967 into a Marathi Kokanastha Brahmin family to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit. She has two elder sisters, Rupa Dixit and Bharti Dixit, and a brother, Ajit Dixit. While Madhuri became a cultural icon, her siblings kept a low profile and preferred to stay away from the entertainment industry.

Meet Madhuri Dixit’s lesser-known sisters

Although they never ventured into films, Rupa and Bharti share Madhuri’s deep passion for dance. All three sisters are trained Kathak dancers, and learnt the Indian classical form from a very young age. However, unlike Madhuri, who transitioned into films, her sisters chose different professional paths. According to reports, Rupa works as a software architect, and Bharti Dixit is a computer engineer.

Why Madhuri became an actress, and not her sisters?

Madhuri Dixit, who initially aspired to be become a doctor, as per her father’s wish, developed a passion for dance when young, which led her to pursue career in acting. Her family, including her siblings supported her aspirations, even though they chose not to pursue the same path.

Despite choosing alternate careers, Madhuri Dixit and her sisters share a close blond. Their love for dance and traditional upbringing by their parents kept them close. While Madhuri continues to achieve success and shine in the public eye, her sisters remain her incredible support, being a guiding force behind the scene.
