Karnataka: Man Alleges Wife, Her Family Forced Him To Convert To Islam After Marriage In Gadag
A young man has filed a complaint against his wife and her family members for allegedly forcing him to convert religions after their marriage in Karnataka’s Gadag district.
According to reports, Vishal Kumar Gokavi married Tehseen Hosamani in a court in November 2024 after being in a relationship with her for three years.
Vishal has alleged that after their marriage, his wife pressured him to marry again as per Muslim rituals.
To prevent unnecessary bitterness in their married life, Vishal agreed to Tehseen’s demand and remarried according to Muslim customs on 25 April this year.
Vishal has further alleged that his name was changed without his consent during the ceremony by the Maulvi.
A video has been circulating online showing Gokavi marrying Hosamani as per Muslim traditions.
The man claimed that after this, his family planned another wedding ceremony with Hindu rituals on 5 June.
Vishal has alleged that Tehseen initially agreed but later changed her mind under pressure from her family.
Levelling serious allegations against his wife, Gokavi stated that Tehseen threatened to implicate him in a rape case if he did not convert to Islam.
Vishal has also claimed that his wife and her mother forced him to offer namaz before attending jamaat.
Acting on Vishal’s complaint, the police on Wednesday registered a case under Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) and Section 302 (protects individuals from actions intended to harm their religious sentiments) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as per media reports.
However, in a statement on the issue, Gagag SP Roahn Jagdish on Thursday said that the man was called to the police station, and he denied of any grievance.
"Investigation will be done in the matter... We will register an FIR if there is any complaint in the case," he said.
