In a shocking incident, five gunmen shot dead a patient inside a private hospital in Patna on Thursday early morning. The shooting occurred at Paras HMRI hospital around 7.30 am.
A disturbing video doing rounds on social media on Thursday showed five men toting pistols walking down the hospital lobby and then entering a room. They went in to kill a rival gangster who was admitted in the hospital and fled the scene after committing the crime.
The deceased was identified as Chandan Mishra from Buxar district of Bihar. He had several criminal cases and was serving his sentence at Beur Jail. The convict, who was out on parole, was admitted to the hospital's ICU.
The suspects have real estate links in the Bihar capital and have criminal background, according to local reports. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the suspects, whom they believe are from a rival gang.
"The police received information that a person was shot at by gunmen inside a private hospital in Patna at 7.30 am on Thursday. The incident took place when the deceased had come for treatment at the hospital. He was on parole," Patna (central) SP Diksha told PTI. She added that a case has been lodged and the incident is being probed.
Police are also investigating how the gunmen entered the hospital with weapons as the hospital has heavy security. They are looking at the possible support the shooters received from the hospital security staff.
The Congress party shared the shocking clip of the shooting on social media, raising concerns about lawlessness in Bihar. Slamming the NDA government helmed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the party wrote, "Bihar's gunda raj. There have been 46 murders in the last 17 days. Now the miscreants entered the Paras Hospital in the capital Patna with weapons and opened fire and killed them. Watch this video and understand how fearless criminals are in Bihar."
