From Barcelona to Manchester City? Pep Guardiola may sign Hansi Flick reject to replace GK Ederson

Marc-Andre ter Stegen could become a Manchester City goalkeeper this season, reports suggest. While the German shot-stopper has slipped down the pecking order under current Barcelona gaffer Hansi Flick, Manchester City is expected to let go of Ederson.

Pep Guardiola, a legend at Barcelona, appreciates the 33-year-old goalkeeper, who arrived at Catalonia from Borussia Mönchengladbach two years after his tenure. Despite being unchallenged for about a decade at Camp Nou for the starter's place, the arrival of Flick has turned the tables for the 6 ft 2 custodian. He is now third behind veteran Wojciech Szczesny, who extended his stay by another year, and summer signing Joan Garcia. Flick has allowed him to look for opportunities elsewhere, reports suggest.

Turkish champions Galatasaray are also interested in signing Manuel Neuer's Die Mannschaft lieutenant as the successor for veteran Fernando Muslera.

Ederson, who has won everything with City, is heavily linked to several Saudi teams since last summer. He has made some costly mistakes over the months and Pep has not ruled out the arrival of a new GK. The Brazilian's current contract with the former English champions runs until June 30, 2026. He signed a five-year contract extension with the club on September 1, 2021, which replaced his previous deal that was set to expire in 2025.

When Joan Garcia was rumoured to be linked to a move to the Etihad ahead of agreeing terms with Barca, Pep had said, "Joan García is a really good goalkeeper, but City are linked with 500 players in every transfer window." What works in favour of Marc, apart from his Barca link, is the fact that Pep prefers an experienced goalkeeper, reports said. Along with the RSL teams, Napoli are also said to be tracking Ederson but he is likely to reach the desert nation, several reports claim.
