Briefs: Fazilka man gets life term for killing sarpanch

Fazilka: The court of Additional Sessions Judge Ajit Pal Singh on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to Lokesh Kumar Godara for murdering Haripura village Sarpanch Mohinder Kumar in November 2019 over election rivalry. Both Mohinder and Lokesh contested the election to the sarpanch’s post that the former won. Nursing a grudge, Godara opened fire on Mohinder at a marriage palace in 2019, resulting into his death. Satish Godara and Om Vishnu were sentenced to three-year jail for harbouring Lokesh after the incident.

Pilot project on flower plantation along highways

Chandigarh: Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Wednesday announced the launch of a pilot project involving the plantation of flowers on both sides of the highways. A state-level special committee would oversee the project and conduct reviews at regular intervals. The project will be initially implemented in Ropar, Nawanshahr, Sangrur, Pathankot and Amritsar.

IAS, PCS officers transferred

Chandigarh: The government has issued posting and transfer orders of three IAS and six PCS officers. Girish Dayalan has been posted as Registrar, Cooperative Societies. His charge in the Education department has been given to Aravind Kumar MK and Harpreet Singh Sudan. Vimal Kumar Setia, who was earlier the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, will continue to hold charge of Public Relations Department.

Chandigarh: Expanding its organisational structure in Punjab, AAP on Wednesday appointed media in-charges and secretaries for all districts. The party also announced the names of 28 social media district in-charges and social media district secretaries.
