12 get life sentence in Nuh murder case after 4-year trial

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Ajay Kumar Verma in Nuh on Thursday sentenced 12 individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in a violent clash and murder that took place in Aata village of Nuh district in September 2020. Each convict has also been fined up to Rs 55,000.

The case stemmed from a caste-related dispute between the Harijan and Valmiki communities, during which Vedram, a resident of the village, was brutally attacked and later succumbed to his injuries.

According to Deputy District Attorney Sandeep Lamba, the conflict began on September 15, 2020, when Trilok, a resident of Aata village, beat up the 9-year-old son of Gautam. When Gautam and Bir Singh confronted him, Trilok slapped and abused them.

The situation escalated the next day. On September 16, around 7:00 pm, several villagers, including Rakesh, Lokesh, and Rajesh, were attacked near Harijan Chaupal. Later, Vedram, who had gone to buy groceries, was assaulted by a group using sticks, iron rods, axes and bricks. He was rushed to Sohna hospital and then referred to a private hospital in Gurugram, where he was declared dead.

Police arrived at the scene and found blood and bricks scattered. A case was registered based on the complaint of Pop Singh, son of the deceased, and the medico-legal report.

“With the help of the police, all necessary evidence was collected in the beginning, on the basis of which this punishment was possible,” said DDA Sandeep Lamba.

The court found Trilok Kumar alias Tarun, Vijay Singh, Niranjan, Rahul, Ajay Kumar, Hitesh, Praveen Gautam, Prakash alias Omprakash, Pankaj, Dushyant Kumar, Satvir Singh Chauhan and Narveer guilty under multiple IPC sections including 302 (murder). The conviction and sentencing come after nearly four-and-a-half years of legal proceedings.
