Viral CCTV Clip Shows Excise Official Beating Liquor Shop Owner For Refusing 'Monthly Vasooli' In MP's Jabalpur
Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A video has surfaced on social media, showing an excise department officer thrashing a shop owner of a liquor store in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. The incident was reported at Barela area of Jabalpur district
According to reports, Assistant Excise Commissioner has been identified as Sanjeev Dubey. Th viral video shows him barging into a liquor shop and creating ruckus. He was also seen hitting the shop owner, demanding illegal monthly dues (vasooli).
The victim has been identified as Upendra Mishra.
It is alleged that the officer demanded monthly illegal recovery from the shopkeeper. When the liquor shop did not pay the amount, the officer got angry and assaulted the staff.
The liquor contractor has filed a complaint at Barela police station regarding this incident. Police officials have confirmed receiving the complaint and said further investigation is underway.
The incident has put a big question mark on the behaviour of excise department officers. People living in the area say that such acts by officials damage the image of the department and shake public trust.
Currently, the police are closely checking the CCTV footage related to the case. It is believed that once the video is fully examined, strict action will be taken as per the rules.
As of now, no official comment or statement has been given by the district administration regarding this matter.
