Five arrested with drugs, illicit liquor
The police arrested five persons last night and recovered a stolen motorcycle, a large quantity of intoxicating tablets, drug money and illicit liquor.
SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, while talking to media here today, said a motorcycle without registration number was recovered from Lavgaan, a resident of Mehtan village near Phagwara. He was booked for suspected vehicle theft, the SP said.
In a separate operation, the police seized 1,335 tablets along with Rs 1,03,000 drug money from Sonu Kumar, a resident of Onkar Nagar, Phagwara. He was booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Two other suspects, Sagar Sandhu of Hadiabad and Kamal of Behram, were also arrested with 50 and 25 intoxicating tablets. They too were booked under the NDPS Act.
In another incident, 12 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from Harwinder Walia, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Phagwara. He was booked under the Punjab Excise Act.
Bhatti confirmed that the police were intensifying efforts to curb drug trafficking and illegal trade in the region. “Strict action will continue against those involved in such unlawful activities,” she said, reiterating the department’s commitment to maintain law and order.
