Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the Trinamool Congress is acting like a wall in the path of West Bengal's development and filling the state's education system with corruption and crime. He added that Bengal will see real change only if CM Mamata Banerjee's party is ousted from power.

PM Modi was speaking during a BJP rally in Durgapur, West Bengal. Unveiling infrastructure projects worth ₹5,000 crore, he said the BJP is trying to make Bengal a developed state.

Recalling that Bengal was once the hub of development, PM pointed out that youth are leaving the state to look for jobs elsewhere while industries are shutting down.

“We have to change this scenario. If BJP forms govt in Bengal, it will turn state into top industrial region in country. Why will investors come to Bengal where riots take place and police are biased. TMC's 'goonda tax' stops investment in West Bengal,” Modi alleged.

Pointing out that the atrocities against women in the state causes pain and anger, Modi claimed that TMC tried to shield culprits in the rape-murder of doctor in RG Kar hospital.

During the visit, Modi sounded the poll bugle as West Bengal is heading to elections in 2026. This was the premier's first visit to West Bengal since Samik Bhattacharya became the party's state president two weeks ago.

Claiming that Bengali 'ashmita' is supreme for the BJP, PM Modi said that Bengalis are respected wherever there is BJP government.

On the other hand, TMC has been slamming the BJP for allegedly harassing Bengali migrants in BJP-ruled states. Mamata is set hold the annual Martyrs' Day rally on July 21, where she is expected to address TMC workers.
