Mumbai News: Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Govt Officials In 2 Separate Bribery Cases; BMC Engineer Remains Absconding
Mumbai: The Mumbai Unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in two separate cases have arrested officials from the cooperative department and civic officials in bribery cases.
According to the ACB, in the first case the complainant had purchased a flat in a housing society. Since the executive committee of the said society was dissolved, the cooperative department had appointed accused official Dayanand Chavan (47), in the said society as the authorised officer and certified auditor on the panel of the cooperative department.
When the complainant applied to Chavan for obtaining the society share certificate, Chavan allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.10 lakh from the complainant to get the society share certificate in the name of the complainant. However, since the complainant did not want to pay the bribe to Chavan, he personally approached the ACB office on 10/07/2025 and filed a complaint.
"In accordance with the complaint received, verification action was taken on 15/07/2025. It was found that Chavan had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.10 lakh from the complainant to get his work done. Accordingly, a trap was laid recently and Chavan was caught red-handed while accepting an advance bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. A case was registered against Chavan under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act," said an ACB official.
In another case, ACB officials said that the complainant is into construction business and he had taken up the work of construction in Gautam Nagar, Govandi. In order to avoid eviction action on the said construction accused Rahul Kamble, Junior Engineer and and civic official Harikrishna Adimoolam, both posted at the M/East Ward of BMC, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant and agreed to accept finally amount of Rs 20,000 after negotiations. But since the complainant did not want to bribe public servants, he approached the ACB and filed a complaint on 16/07/2025.
"In accordance with the said complaint, when verification was conducted on 16/07/2025, it was found that public servants Harikrishna Adimoolam and Rahul Kamble had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant for not taking eviction action on the unauthorised construction. Accordingly, a trap was laid and BMC staffer Harikrishna Adimoolam was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000/- from the complainant, while Kamble is yet to be arrested," the ACB official said.
