Trump’s policy fails, bad news as number of Indian students going to US falls by…, reason is…
New Delhi: There has been a massive drop of 70% in the number of Indian students going to America for studies. This situation has arisen due to the blockage of visa slots and sudden increase in visa rejections due to the Trump administration’s policies related to international students.
What did Trump say about student visa?
US President Donald Trump has issued instructions regarding the enrollment and visa of international students in the universities of the country. Due to this situation, there is a decline in the number of Indian students in US universities. Education consultants of Hyderabad say that the number of Indian students going to America has fallen by about 70 percent. The main reason behind this decline is the ban on the availability of visa appointment slots by the USA and the sudden increase in the visa rejection rate.
Sanjeev Rai of Hyderabad Overseas Consultants told the Times of India, “By this time, usually most of the students have completed their visa interviews and are busy preparing for their flight. But this year, students are still just refreshing the portal in the hope of getting visa appointment slots. This is the worst situation in the last several years,” reports abplive.
What do US officials say?
However, US officials had said in this regard that visa slots would be released in a phased manner, but till now there is a lot of confusion in this matter and due to this the students are also very upset and those who have booked the slots have not received confirmation.
Ankit Jain of Window Overseas Education Consultancy said, “Students who have managed to book visa appointment slots in the beginning have also not received a confirmation reply yet,” reports abplive.
He also said that it seems as if the US system is opening the slots only for testing, because even after booking, no student has received confirmation. In such a situation, Indian students are now turning to other countries instead of studying in America.
