CM reviews Jyotisar project, urges fast-track completion

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday reviewed the progress of the under-construction Mahabharata-themed interpretation centre at Jyotisar Tirtha, the sacred site in Kurukshetra believed to be the place where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita.

The ambitious Jyotisar Anubhav Kendra is being developed as a major tourism attraction, but the project has faced delays and remains incomplete. Of the five planned galleries, only two were virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February last year, and the remaining work is still pending.

Accompanied by senior officials, including Principal Secretary (Tourism) Kala Ramachandran, the Chief Minister inspected various sections of the site and directed officials to expedite the completion of all unfinished components. “The remaining work must be finished quickly so that the centre can be opened to the public,” he said.

After the review, Saini described the centre as a flagship tourism project. “Jyotisar interpretation centre is an important project. The work has been reviewed today. Gita Sthali Jyotisar is being developed into one of the world’s grandest and memorable historical destinations. The government is investing about Rs 250 crore to develop this sacred site as a major tourism hub,” he said.

The CM said the centre would offer visitors an immersive and vibrant depiction of Kurukshetra’s glorious past, especially the spiritual legacy of the Mahabharata. “The aim is to make Jyotisar Anubhav Kendra a globally renowned tourist attraction,” he said.

Responding to a media query, the Chief Minister said, “Lord Krishna had delivered the sermon of Bhagavad Gita from Jyotisar. Keeping this divine legacy in mind, the government is accelerating development works at Jyotisar.”

Saini further said directions would soon be issued to reopen the Kalpana Chawla Planetarium in the area for tourists.

Those present during the visit included Swami Gyananand, OSD to CM Bharat Bhushan Bharti, Tourism Director Dr Shaleen and Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, among other officials.
