2 booked in Cheeka felling case
The police have finally registered a case against two persons allegedly involved in the illegal cutting of trees and unauthorised excavation of soil from land owned by the Cheeka Municipal Committee (MC).
The action follows the recommendation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by Deputy Commissioner Preeti, which submitted its report recently.
“A case has been registered against Ishwar and Chanderbhan under Section 303 of the BNS. The investigation is going on,” said inspector Balbir Singh, Cheeka SHO.
The case pertains to a complaint filed on December 24, 2024, through the CM Window, alleging that several trees were felled and soil removed from MC-leased land without proper notification or transparency regarding fund utilisation. It was in March that the MC conducted an internal inquiry, confirming that 16 trees had been axed and significant soil excavation had taken place, causing an estimated loss of Rs 18-22 lakh to the municipal body.
