72-yr-old held after poppy husk haul

The police have arrested a 72-year-old resident of Sekhan Majra village and booked two others after recovering 1.35 quintal of poppy husk at Kurdi village today.

The CIA staff of the Mohali police said they received a tip-off that Iqbal Singh, alias Jaggu, of Ward No. 9, Banur, on the Buta Singh Wala village road, along with his accomplices Jarnail Singh, alias Jaila; and Paramjit Singh, alias Pamma, both residents of Sekhan Majra village, were engaged in the illegal business of selling poppy husk.

“They had procured the consignment of poppy husk from other states and dumped it in a room where straw is stored by Jarnail and Paramjit. They supply this poppy husk in small quantities to their customers in the IT City and Banur areas,” said Inspector Harminder Singh.

A case under Section 15/29-61-85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the accused at the IT City police station. The police recovered of 1.35 quintal of poppy husk from the straw room and arrested Jarnail aged 72.

The police said suspects Paramjit and Iqbal have absconded. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
