High Court bids farewell to Justice Chauhan

A farewell was organised today in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in honour of outgoing Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge on his elevation as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice G S Sandhawalia said that Justice Chauhan is a true model of discipline and human qualities. He has excellent quality of humility and is down to earth. Justice Chauhan has earned his respect not only from the members of the bar of this court but also from the visiting legal luminaries, who have come to this court to address the issues before him and have always found him abreast of the latest law. He has the distinction of disposing of nearly 75,000 cases during his tenure.

The Chief Justice further said that the moments shared with him will always be cherished and he will surely be missed in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Justice wished Justice Chauhan best of health and happiness in the days to come.

In his address, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan thanked the Bench and the Bar as well as the staff of the Registry for the love and cooperation extended by them.

Justice Chauhan belongs to Ruhru tehsil in Shimla district. He had obtained a degree in law from Punjab University, Chandigarh, after which he enrolled himself as an advocate with the Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh in the year 1989. He practiced in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in all Branches of Law.

He elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on February, 23, 2014 and thereafter appointed as permanent Judge of the High Court on November 30, 2014.

Justice Chauhan is also the Executive Chairman of HP State Legal Service Authority and in Board of the Governing Council the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. He also remained president of the HP Judicial Academy.

Being a chairperson of the Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Justice Chauhan has done tremendous work with keen interest for the welfare and interest of the children of Bal/Balika Ashrams, Himachal, Hospital for Mental Health and Rehab, Shimla and old age homes of Himachal Pradesh.

Judges of High Court of HP Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua and Justice Satyen Vaidya, Justice Sushil Kukreja, Justice Virender Singh, Justice Ranjan Sharma, Justice Rakesh Kainthla, senior advocates and other members of Bar Association, Registrar General, other Registrars, officers and staff of High Court Registry were also present on the occasion. They were present during the Guard of Honour.
