City swimmers Anushka, Ojas set new meet records on Day 1
City swimmers Anushka Sharma and Ojas Sund created two new meet records on the opening day of the 36th Sub-Junior, 48th Junior and 46th Senior Punjab State Swimming Championship being organised by the district swimming association under the auspices of Punjab Swimming Association here at the Punjab Agricultural University swimming pool on Friday. The third meet record was established in a team event, when Mohali quartet of Vanisha, Shubhnoor, Lakshay Jindal and Jhujhar Singh Gill finished ahead of others to rewrite the new record.
In the individual event, Anushka Sharma clocked 5.38.17 seconds to set a new record in 400m freestyle event for girl’s group-II. The existing record of 5.38.22 seconds was established in the year 1995 by Abhipsha Tkahur, also from Ludhiana.
Another meet record tumbled as Ojas Sund, in 200m back stroke in boys group-I, took 2.29:82 seconds to create a new record, putting to shade the previous record of 2.30:55 seconds set by Arbaz Khan of Patiala in 2018.
The meet record was established in 4x100m freestyle relay as the Mohali team clocked 4.10:06 seconds to put to eclipse the existing record of 4.10.13 seconds, created also by Mohali swimmers.
Sanjeev Arora, Punjab Minister for Industry, Commerce, Investment Promotion and NRI Affairs, inaugurated the championship, while Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal was the guest of honour at the opening function. Balraj Sharma, CEO of Punjab Swimming Association, welcomed the guests and wished the participants good luck.
Ludhiana
