‘5 fighter jets were shot down in the Indo-Pak war…’, Donald Trump again reiterated his claim to stop the war
Regarding India and Pakistan, the US President said that ‘the situation was continuously worsening and we resolved it through trade. We said – if you guys keep using weapons, we will not enter into any trade agreement.’
US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that his intervention could have prevented the growing tension between India and Pakistan. Trump said that the situation between the two countries had become very serious after India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the Pahalgam attack, but his intervention averted the conflict.
What did Donald Trump say?
Trump said, ‘We stopped many wars. And these were not small wars. The situation between India and Pakistan had become very serious. Planes were being shot down. I think about five fighter planes were shot down. Both of these are nuclear-armed countries and were attacking each other.’
He further said that it had become a situation like a ‘new kind of war’, as America had done with Iran. Trump claimed that ‘we completely destroyed Iran’s nuclear capability.’
Claim to resolve dispute through trade
Regarding India and Pakistan, he said that ‘the situation was continuously worsening, and we resolved it through trade. We said – if you guys keep using weapons (and maybe nuclear weapons), then we will not make any trade agreement.’
India shot down several high-tech Pakistani jets
On May 10, a few days after the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti had said that India had shot down several ‘high-tech’ Pakistani fighter jets, although he did not specify the number.
On the other hand, Pakistan had rejected India’s claim and said that only one aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was slightly damaged. On the contrary, Pakistan claims that it shot down six Indian fighter jets, including Rafale.
What did CDS General Anil Chauhan say?
However, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has rejected Pakistan’s claim. He did admit that some fighter planes were shot down during the conflict, but did not reveal their number.
General Chauhan said that these losses were incurred in the initial stages of the conflict, but the Indian armed forces very quickly corrected their mistakes and then gave a befitting reply to Pakistan. He said, ‘The important thing is not that the plane fell, but why it fell… what mistake happened, this is more important. Numbers do not matter.’
