Trader Shot At In Bihar's Saharsa, Business Rivalry Suspected

A businessman was shot and injured by unidentified assailants late Friday night (July 18, 2025) in Saharsa, Bihar. The victim, 40-year-old Shyamal Yadav, sustained two gunshot wounds to his back. The incident took place between Ghoshpur and Saini Tola in the Salkhua police station area. He was rushed to a private nursing home in Saharsa for treatment.

Yadav, who deals in sand, gravel, cement, and iron rods, was returning home from his shop when he was attacked in a deserted area. A resident of Goriari, Ward No. 10, under Salkhua police limits, Yadav said he was heading home as usual after closing his shop when he saw two men standing between Ghoshpur and Saini Tola—both of whom he recognised.

“They asked me why I was out so late. As soon as I replied and moved forward, they shot me from behind,” he said.

Yadav further alleged that the shooters were also businessmen who own shops in the area. He claimed to have opened his store just six months ago and said the attackers were upset over losing customers to him.

Accusations Against Sanjay and Arun Yadav

Yadav's friend, Pradeep Yadav, who was accompanying him on a motorcycle at the time, corroborated the account. “We were riding together when Sanjay Yadav and Arun Yadav stopped us to talk. As we moved on, they opened fire. The bullet hit Shyamal in the back,” he said.

Investigation Underway

SDPO Mukesh Thakur confirmed the shooting and said police reached the scene soon after receiving information. “We’re actively investigating the case. The victim has named two suspects, and raids are being conducted to arrest them. Preliminary findings suggest the motive may be business-related rivalry. The exact cause will be determined after a thorough investigation,” Thakur stated.

Yadav remains under medical care as authorities continue their probe.
