Sharda University’s student from Noida dies by suicide, blames university professors over…
In a shocking statement, a second-year student of a private university in Greater Noida hanged herself in her hostel room, police said. The incident took place Friday night, and a case has been filed at the Knowledge Park Police Station in Gautam Budh Nagar.
A suicide note, purportedly written by Sharma, accuses two professors and the university administration of mental harassment. The police have arrested two university staff members in connection with the death.
Jyoti Sharma was a BDS student and hailed from Gurugram. “Two staff members from the management of the university have been arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of the student,” Additional DCP, Greater Noida, Sudhir Kumar, said.
The woman’s body has been sent for a post-mortem, he added.
After the incident came to light, students protested against the university administration, alleging negligence. They said Jyoti was stressed due to accusations of forging signatures.
What was written in suicide note?
“I want them to go behind the bars. They mentally harassed me. They humiliated me. I have been in this stress for a long time. I want them to feel the same thing,” Jyoti wrote in her suicide note.
What is the university saying?
In a statement, Sharda University said a high power inquiry committee has been constituted to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and to recommend any further institutional measures. “The University is fully cooperating with statutory authorities conducting their own processes,” the Director of Public Relations said.
“All required documentation and access have been extended, we will continue to cooperate transparently,” the Director added.
This incident occurred days after, a 20-year-old student in Balasore, Odisha, died after setting herself on fire following repeated complaints of sexual harassment by a college teacher that were allegedly ignored.
