‘Visited 42 Countries, But…’: Kharge Targets PM Modi Over Manipur, Warns Against Changing Constitution

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticized PM Modi's silence over the ongoing violence in Manipur and said that the Prime Minister has visited 42 countries, but not once has he gone to Manipur. While addressing a public rally in Mysuru, Kharge said that Manipur has been facing ethnic violence and instability for over a year now, and the opposition has consistently questioned the central government’s role in handling the situation.

The Grand Old Party chief also said that the northeastern state of Manipur has been reeling under violence for over a year, yet the Prime Minister did not find it important to visit and share the pain of the people there.

Kharge also accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to change the Constitution. He said that BJP and RSS want to change the Constitution, but the people of the country will not let them do it. He appealed to the public to stay alert and protect the Constitution.

"BJP and RSS are talking about amending or rewriting the Constitution. You may try how much ever you want, the people of this country will not allow you to change the Constitution. If you (people) allow them to change the Constitution, you will not have any rights," Kharge warned the gathering.

He said Modi became the Chief Minister and Prime Minister because of the Constitution and that he bowed to the Constitution before entering the Parliament. But, he is "murdering the same Constitution" today, Kharge said. BJP and RSS are every day making attempts to remove this Constitution," he added further. 

Responding to allegations of financial crisis in the Congress-led Karnataka government, Kharge said that the BJP claims that the Karnataka government has gone bankrupt, but this is completely false.

He emphasized that the Siddaramaiah government is leading the state in a positive direction and called BJP’s allegations baseless.
