Rainwater inundates fields in Rohtak villages; MP inspects affected area

A recent spell of heavy rain has left hundreds of acres of agricultural land waterlogged across several villages, particularly in the Meham Assembly segment.

MP Deepender Hooda accompanied by Congress MLA from Meham Balram Dangi visited several affected villages, including Bhaini Surjan, Bhaini Chandrapal, Bhaini Bhairo, Bhaini Maharajpur, Bhaini Mato, and Saiman, and met the villagers affected by waterlogging.

He emphasised that the administration must deploy all available resources for immediate drainage in these villages and provide urgent relief to the residents. During his visit, the farmers shared their grievances with Deepender, stating that extensive areas were submerged due to the recent rains, resulting in complete destruction of standing crops.

The farmers informed him that hundreds of acres of cotton and millet crops had already been destroyed and paddy fields were also on the verge of being ruined due to prolonged water accumulation.

Responding to the situation, Deepender spoke to the Deputy Commissioner from the site and urged the administration to take immediate steps to ensure drainage.

He also demanded that the government carry out a special girdawari (crop damage assessment) and provide compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to the affected farmers. Furthermore, he called for declaring the waterlogged villages as flood-affected zones and ensure that all necessary relief measures were extended to them.

Expressing displeasure over waterlogging, Deepender said lack of proper drainage systems—from villages to urban areas—had caused significant damage to crops and property across the state. “In most districts of the state, rainwater has accumulated in the fields, streets, roads, residential colonies, main thoroughfares and underpasses leading to severe inconvenience to the public. Many colonies, markets and public places have been submerged in knee-deep water. Roads have become muddy and slippery and foul smell have further disrupted daily life,” Deepender pointed out.

The MP criticised the state government, saying, “Every year, the government makes tall claims of spending crores on sanitation. Yet, despite these massive annual expenditures in the name of cleanliness, the declining cleanliness rankings of cities across the country have exposed the BJP-led Haryana Government’s failures.”
