Violent clash in Sultanpur Lodhi hospital emergency ward leaves four injured

Days after two separate attacks rocked an emergency ward of the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala, a similar violent clash was witnessed at the Sultanpur Lodhi hospital on Friday night. A bloody clash took place between two groups at the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital.

Four youths were injured in the clash. The emergency ward of the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital turned into a battlefield following attacks of feuding parties against each other.

A youth and his companion, who came to the Civil Hospital for treatment, were attacked with sharp weapons by some youths from the other group. As per claims by the youth, he and his friend had earlier allegedly been attacked by the other group at a shop.

The injured was brought by his friend to the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital for treatment where other youths allegedly attacked them again with sharp weapons. After this, a violent clash ensued between the two sides which turned bloody.

The CCTV footage showed blood spilt everywhere in the emergency ward. A police team reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

Varun Khatri, from the first group, who was undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, said a few months ago he had received an extortion call, which he ignored. On Friday, when he was sitting at his friend’s shop and having a party, some youths suddenly attacked his friend and injured him. After this, Khatri along with others, brought his friend to the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital for treatment.

He alleged that sometime later, the same youth attacked them again in the Civil Hospital emergency ward and injured both of them. Khatri alleged that the attackers snatched his gold chain and Rs 50,000 in cash from him.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh from the other group (whom Khatri alleged was with the attackers), was undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, denied the allegations. Singh alleged that they had come for treatment earlier at the hospital when Khatri and his companion attacked them. Singh also sustained injuries in the brawl.

Doctor on duty Navneet Singh said four people were injured in the clash, of which two were referred to other hospital, while the other two were undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.

ASI Harjinder Singh, who reached hospital, said the police were investigating the matter. He said after recording statements of the injured, due legal action would be taken against those who had taken the law into their own hands.
