375 volunteers trained in civil defence in Chandigarh
The third and final batch of the Civil Defence Training Programme, an initiative of the UT Administration, concluded at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Sector 26 here today.
“This marks a major milestone in the city’s efforts to strengthen a structured, resilient and community-driven emergency response mechanism. Over the course of the programme, a total of 375 volunteers have been trained through three intensive batches,” said Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav.
The programme integrated rigorous academic learning with practical field applications. A key highlight of the final batch was a field visit to Chandimandir Cantonment where volunteers participated in hands-on drills and simulations under the guidance of senior military officials. These exercises mirrored real-life emergency scenarios such as natural disasters, fire outbreaks and mass evacuations. Delivered through a blend of classroom teaching, interactive sessions and simulation-based learning, the programme ensured a comprehensive understanding of civil defence protocols tailored to urban needs.
Prior to the field training, participants underwent a structured academic module. The curriculum covered essential aspects of disaster management, including emergency communication, first aid, inter-agency coordination and standard operating procedures.
