Out on bail, key supplier in heroin seizure case held
The Fatehabad police have arrested the main supplier involved in a case of 20 grams of heroin seizure. Earlier, the accused was serving a 10-year jail term in Punjab and was out on bail for the past 11 months. He has been identified as Dhawan Singh, alias Bagga, a resident of Chak Tahli, Jalalabad, District Fazilka (Punjab). Notably, the police had earlier arrested two other accused in connection with the same case.
Giving details, Sub-Inspector Sheeshpal, in-charge of Dariapur police chowki, said that a special police team led by ASI Ramkishan received a tip-off that a man named Harjinder, alias Raju, was involved in the supply of heroin. Acting swiftly, the police set up a blockade near Khumbar village.
During the operation, a young man tried to flee the scene but was caught. On searching him, 20 gm heroin was recovered. A case under the NDPS Act was registered at the Sadar Police Station, Fatehabad.
As the investigation progressed, the name of Dhawan Singh, alias Bagga, emerged as the main source of drug supply. The police subsequently arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to being previously convicted in Punjab for trafficking 5 kg heroin (chitta) and was sentenced to 10 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh. He was out on bail from the High Court for the past 11 months.
The accused has now been presented before the court and is on two-day police remand. During the remand, the police are focusing on uncovering the wider drug supply network and identifying other associates linked to the case.
