Addressing a function after launching monograph `Indus Water Treaty-Mirroring the Facts’ authored by senior journalist Sant Kumar Sharma, Sinha, without naming National Conference MP from Srinagar Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, said while Pakistan and its sponsored terrorists spilled blood of common man in Jammu and Kashmir, some persons forgetting dignity are speaking language of the TRF outfit.

“The country and Kashmir have more threat from such people. In the coming days, it will be ensured that legal action is initiated against such persons who are targeting unity and integrity of the country. I won’t name anyone but use of words that launching train services to Kashmir is demographic invasion, aimed at making Kashmiris minority, cultural invasion and tourists increasing alcoholism and vulgarism is the language of TRF,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He said these statements are aimed at defaming security forces who are working day and night for peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir and warned that such statements should stop immediately. He added that new generation wants peace and progress and if some people can’t support them they should at least stay silent.
After distributing appointment letters to 40 members of terror victim families who were denied justice for years together few days back, Sinha declared that properties of terror victims encroached upon by the terrorists or terror sympathizers will also be vacated by the month of August.
Sinha said it is being ensured that family members, who have been waiting for justice for decades, get jobs, financial assistance and necessary handholding.
“No terror victim families will be left behind. The culprits will not be spared. Properties of terror victims which were encroached upon by the terrorists or terror sympathizers will be vacated in the month of August,” he said.
Asserting that Pakistan has destroyed generations, the Lieutenant Governor said now for bright future, the people are standing against terrorists. After Pahalgam terror attack, the protests continued for weeks together. People have now realized that Jammu and Kashmir has no future with Pakistan which is a very positive sign, he added.
He said after Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, India has made it very clear that any future terror attack will be treated as an act of war. India has very categorically stated that only issue for talks is Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK), he added,
“There was a time when big funeral processions were organized for terrorists. But those who were killed by the terrorists were not able to even find space for their graves. However, now terror victims will get justice and action will be taken against the culprits,” he said, adding many used to visit graves of the terrorists to offer flowers.
“Such a narrative was set that terrorists are victims and security forces are aggressors,” he asserted.
Describing the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) as a “historic mistake”, Sinha said its termination is a befitting response to Pakistan and will ensure immense benefit to Jammu and Kashmir, which will be able to harness its real hydro power potential.
The Lieutenant Governor said the Government of India is working on long term, short term and midterm policies to develop infrastructure to use the waters of rivers after scrapping the IWT. There will be no shortage of funds for the purpose, he said but declined to go into details till the final shape is given to this.
“India has made it clear that blood and water cannot flow together, terror and talks cannot go together and terror and trade cannot happen together,” he said.
“Termination of the IWT is a befitting response to Pakistan and it will have far-reaching consequences since it is dependent on the Indus River system,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor said the thoughtful and timely monograph offers interesting insights on the IWT with Pakistan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive move to terminate the treaty post Pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that left 26 persons dead.
He said the historic step has marked a new beginning and reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to utilize the nation’s water exclusively for the benefit of its citizens.
“India’s water will now flow within India and remain in India. With the termination of the IWT, we now have full control over the Jhelum and Chenab rivers,” said Sinha, adding its termination will ensure immense benefit to Jammu and Kashmir, which will be able to harness its real hydro power potential.
The barren areas of Jammu can be irrigated and there will be new momentum in the development of infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said India will now create infrastructure, power plants and diversion to new areas with proper infrastructure to use the water and it will enable construction of new reservoirs.
Citing a debate in Parliament in November 1960 and the statements of prominent leaders in the House, he said that the IWT was a “historical mistake, unfair, one-sided” and hampered infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir and restricted growth of development projects.
In his address at another function earlier in the day, Sinha paid tribute to the Army, Police, and Central Armed Police Forces personnel for their supreme sacrifice for Jammu and Kashmir’s peace and progress, adding that every citizen has the onerous responsibility to build a terror-free and drug-free Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor congratulated Sant Kumar Sharma, author of `Indus Water Treaty-Mirroring the Facts’ on his remarkable work to bring out various historical aspects of this Indus Water Treaty.
Besides Sant Kumar Sharma, others present on the occasion include Anuradha Sharma, Dr Ashok Bhan, Member, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Prof BK Kuthiala, former Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism & Communications, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Team Jammu, senior officials, prominent literary personalities, journalists and people in large numbers.
