Wife, lover arrested for man’s murder in Dwarka
A woman and her lover, who is also her husband’s cousin, were arrested for the alleged murder of her husband in Dwarka here, a senior police officer said on Friday. The accused have been identified as Sushmita and Rahul.
The incident came to light on July 13 when a PCR call was received from Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital in Uttam Nagar, informing them about the death of Karan Dev (36) due to electrocution.
According to a senior Delhi Police officer, Karan’s wife and her lover, son of Karan’s uncle, have been arrested and are being questioned.
Investigations revealed that the woman and her lover allegedly drugged Karan by giving him sleeping pills before electrocuting him to death at their residence. After committing the crime, the woman rushed to her in-laws’ house nearby and informed them that Karan had died, prompting the family to rush him to the hospital, the officer said.
He was brought to the hospital in an unresponsive state and declared dead on arrival. The medico-legal case (MLC) cited electrocution as the cause of death.
“Initially, the deceased’s family did not raise any allegations and even wished to waive the post-mortem examination. However, considering the age of the deceased and to rule out any foul play, a post-mortem examination was conducted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh.
Earlier on July 16, Karan’s younger brother Kunal Dev approached the police, expressing suspicion over the circumstances of his brother’s death.
A senior Delhi Police officer said during the investigation, Kunal found chats between Karan’s wife and her lover, which indicated they had conspired to kill Karan.
Based on the complaint, a case under Section 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered, the police said.
