Sawan Somwar 2025: The sacred month of Sawan, also known as Shravan, holds immense spiritual importance in Hinduism. Typically falling in July and August, this holy period is dedicated to Lord Shiv and is considered the most auspicious time to offer devotion, reflect spiritually, and perform rituals for inner growth.
This year, Sawan 2025 began on Friday, 11 July, and will conclude on Saturday, 9 August 2025. While every day in Sawan is spiritually significant, Mondays, that are known as Sawan Somwars, are especially revered by Shiv devotees. On these days, worshippers observe vrat, perform Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek, and offer special prayers to Lord Shiv.

Sawan Somwar 2025 Dates And Vrat Schedule
This year, there will be four Sawan Mondays:
- 14 July – First Sawan Somwar
- 21 July – Second Sawan Somwar
- 28 July – Third Sawan Somwar
- 4 August – Fourth Sawan Somwar
Devotees observe a strict fast on these days and follow traditional rituals to please Lord Shiv and seek his blessings.
Shiv Puja Vidhi: How To Worship On Sawan Somwar
- Morning Bath And Sankalp: Wake up early, bathe, wear clean clothes, light a ghee lamp, and take a vow to observe the vrat.
- Abhishek: Perform Jalabhishek on the Shivling using Gangajal, milk, curd, honey, ghee, and water, prepared as Panchamrit.
- Offerings: Present belpatra, bhang, dhatura, white flowers, fruits, sandalwood paste, incense, and lamp to Lord Shiv.
- Mantra Chanting: Recite Om Namah Shivay or the Mahamrityunjay Mantra during puja.
- Night Vigil: Stay awake at night, sing bhajans, or read from Shiv Puran and other scriptures.
- Vrat Paran: Break the fast the next morning, on Tuesday, during an auspicious time.
Important Vrat Rules To Follow
- Avoid wearing dirty, impure, or black-coloured clothes during puja.
- Always face east or north while performing worship.
- Sit on a mat or asan while praying, and avoid standing.
- Only offer satvik items to Lord Shiv.
