Chennai Weather Update: Heavy Rain To Hit In These Regions Of Tamil Nadu; IMD Issues Orange Alert
Chennai: The capital city is known as the Gateway to South India, and usually experiences hot and humid weather conditions during the summer and early monsoon months. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a mix of rain and scorching heat across Tamil Nadu over the next few days.
The city's weather is expected to remain pleasant with chances of moderate to heavy rainfall due to the ongoing Southwest Monsoon influence. On Sunday, the capital city woke up at 05: 52 AM and the sun is likely to set at 6: 39 PM. Today, the minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 27 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius, respectively. The humidity is expected to be around 84 per cent.
Today's weather
The Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) has predicted rainfall to continue over Tamil Nadu. Other parts of the state will experience light rainfall and it is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms. The temperatures are expected to remain above normal, causing discomfort in several regions.
The IMD has issued an orange alert in some parts of Tamil Nadu including Western Ghats, Thoothukudi, Puducherry, Karaikal, Nilgiris, Tenkasi, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Theni, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Virudhunagar until the weekend. The skies are expected to be cloudy and it will remain same throughout the day. Chennai is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall.
IMD advisory
The meteorological agency indicated that although the rain may offer some respite from the heat, it will also cause complications such as waterlogging and power outages. Earlier last week, the intense rain led to water accumulation in crucial areas, resulting in sluggish vehicle movement.
Weather tips
If you're planning to go outdoors, it's advisable to stay hydrated and wear light, breathable clothing. Keeping an umbrella handy could help in case of sudden rain spells. It's also a good idea to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours when the heat and humidity are at their highest.
