Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s bahu Shloka Mehta opens up on leaving behind legacy for her children Prithvi and Veda
Shloka Mehta, the daughter-in-law of India’s wealthiest man, Mukesh Ambani, is back in the news. This time, it is not related to fashion, style, or elegance, but due to her contribution as the co-founder of ConnectFor. Recently, Shloka Mehta appeared for an interview with influencer Masoom Minawala, with her ConnectFor co-founder, Maniti Shah. Shloka spoke on a variety of topics during her interview with Masoom Minawala.
Shloka, wife of Reliance Non-Executive Director Akash Ambani, discussed her experiences in the social impact space, the motivation to launch ConnectFor in December 2015. Well, ConnectFor is a non-profit organisation that seeks to contribute to the developmental sector by facilitating engagement of the volunteering community, building capacity, and creating value-added services for NGOs. It aims to provide comprehensive resource solutions for the social sector by creating symbiosis amongst NGOS, volunteers, and corporates, and adding value and structure to these associations.
What legacy does Shloka Mehta want to leave behind for Prithvi and Veda?
A video posted on Masoom Minawala’s YouTube on July 18, Shloka Mehta explained how she manages both work and motherhood. When asked how she balances both roles, Shloka stated that working with a non-profit organization like ConnectFor is her way of leaving a meaningful legacy for her and Akash Ambani’s children — Prithvi Akash Ambani and Veda Ambani.
While speaking to Masoom Minawala, Shloka said, “Not that I need you (her children) to work in the social space, but more that it doesn’t matter how niche something feels. If you feel strongly about something, you will make opportunities happen. It’s really about what kind of message you are leaving behind. I take real pride in telling my kids that ‘Mumma has to go to the office, you are going to school, we are all doing things to make ourselves better.’”
Shloka Mehta, daughter-in-law of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, revealed that building her vision for ConnectFor is her way of creating something meaningful that her children can look up to. She hopes it inspires them to pursue their passions fearlessly. According to her, no matter the field, if one is truly driven and passionate, opportunities will eventually come their way.
“You need to be aware of the world around you. You need to think, ‘What can I do for it?’ I think for me, it has doubled my resolve because you are creating something for someone you are fully invested in, who is going to be influenced by it. I think that is the best legacy you can leave behind for your kids,” Shloka added.
“I was passionate about something that I really followed what I wanted to do, and I wanted them to do the same thing. That’s the dream I have for my kids, my nieces and nephews. They need to know that all careers are okay. It’s okay to do a job, make lots of money, or build something that takes a lot of time, but you need to believe that you are building something of value,” Shloka added.
What role does Akash Ambani play in Shloka’s journey as a changemaker?
Throughout the conversation, Shloka shared what she considered her greatest achievement, along with the important support system that she had from her family while working on the nonprofit organization. She described her biggest win in building ConnectFor to be simply ‘surviving’, thus pushing through with challenges, which she acknowledged she would not have been able to do without her family, and that of her co-founder, Maniti Shah.
“None of this would have been possible if they (family) weren’t supportive, and if they didn’t believe in us, as much as we did. Our parents, our husbands take great pride, saying that, ‘This is what my wife does.’ It’s been really lucky,” she said in the interview.
