Ahead of the monsoon session of parliament, the government convened an all-party meeting on Sunday where the opposition leaders raked up a range of issues, including electoral roll revision and the Pahalgam attack.

 

Gaurav Gogoi and Jairam Ramesh of the Congress, Supriya Sule of NCP-Sharad Pawar, DMK's T.R. Baalu and RPI (A) leader and Union minister Ramdas Athawale were amongst those who attended the meeting.

 

The government side was represented by Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju and his junior minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Congress seeks Modi's statement

 

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the party has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement in parliament on US President Donald Trump's claim that he had brokered 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan.

 

The Congress also sought Modi's statement on the alleged security lapses that led to the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

 

"It's incumbent on PM Modi to give a statement in Parliament on the key issues raised by the Congress at the all-party meeting," Gogoi said.

 

AAP raises Bihar electoral roll revision issue

 

Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said he had raised the alleged "poll scam" of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. He also raked up Trump's claim on the India-Pakistan ceasefire.

 

Singh reiterated his party's decision to stay away from the opposition grand alliance. The  INDIA bloc is only for Lok Sabha polls, and AAP is contesting assembly polls on its own, he said.

 

BJD rakes up law and order in Odisha

 

At the meeting, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Sasmit Patra alleged a "complete collapse" of law and order in Odisha, where the BJP is in power. He was referring to an incident of self-immolation by a college student and another case of a 15-year-old being set on fire by a group of men.

 

"The Centre can't escape responsibility for failing law and order in states," Patra said, demanding that Parliament debate it.

 

SP questions govt's foreign policy

 

The Samajwadi Party launched a scathing attack on the government, saying its foreign policy has completely failed and no country supported India during Operation Sindoor.
