Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has come down harshly on those trying to create a ruckus during the Kanwar Yatra. He stated that posters of mischief-makers would be plastered all over the state, and they would be dealt with strictly.

Yogi Adityanath, who on Sunday took an aerial overview of the Yatra, said that those deliberately causing vandalism to defame Kanwariyas would have to face the music. Action against such mischief-makers would take place after the Yatra is over.

The state has put in place elaborate security measures, including police personnel in plain clothes mingling with the yatris to keep an eye out for vandals and trouble-makers. In addition, the security of women Kanwariyas is a top priority. The biggest ever contingent of women police personnel has been deployed, alongside special help desks for women devotees. The state government showered rose petals on Kanwariyas today, as it has done in past years.

The Chief Minister said that there was CCTV and drone footage from the entire Yatra, and no one who tried to defame the religious fervour and sanctity of the Yatra would be spared. He spoke of miscreants hiding among the Kanwariyas to bring a bad name to them. This, he said, was a 'cunning attempt' to defame the Yatra, which is a homage to Lord Shiva. He also spoke about such attempts being made on social media and through other means.

He appealed to people not to be misled by such falsehoods. He also said that if such miscreants are identified, people should not take the law into their own hands but inform the police or the administration about the trouble-makers.

The Chief Minister showered flowers on the Kanwariyas in Meerut. Later, he called upon people to realise and fulfil their own responsibilities during the month-long Yatra. While the police, administration, and sanitation workers were doing their work, it was incumbent upon ordinary citizens too to do their bit for the peaceful conduct of the Yatra, he said.
