15 kg heroin seized from UK returnee
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Border Range, has confiscated 15.4 kg of heroin from a UK returnee. The suspect has been identified as Prabhjit Singh of Moude border village.
He was arrested from the Chheharta area following a tip-off that he was going to deliver the drug consignment to some persons on the directions of some Pakistan-based drug smugglers.
Gurpreet Singh, Superintendent of Police, ANTF, confirmed the seizure and said as per a preliminary probe, the police found that he was in direct contact with a Pakistani smuggler alias Chacha or Rana.
He was produced before a duty magistrate who remanded him in police custody. Investigations revealed that Prabhjit went to England in 2021 and returned in 2023. During his stay there, he came in contact with Chacha through Gurlal Singh, a drug peddler from his village. After Gurlal died, the Pakistani smuggler lured him into the illegal drug trade for easy money.
“On Saturday, Prabhjit was going to deliver the drug consignment in the Chheharta area in a car when the ANTF team intercepted him. During search, the police seized heroin from the car,” said Gurpreet Singh while adding that the drugs were apparently smuggled through drone but the investigations were in progress.
A probe was on to identify the area from where the contraband was smuggled into Indian Territory. Though the accused claimed he was delivering the drugs for the first time, the police said his backward and forward linkages were being probed.
