Operation Sindoor Sparks Heated Debate in Parliament; Government Agrees to Full Discussion

A heated debate unfolded in the Indian Parliament over Operation Sindoor and the issue of ceasefire, leading to disruptions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, raised concerns under Rule 267, seeking a detailed discussion on the government’s role and strategic actions related to Operation Sindoor and the Indo-Pak ceasefire developments. The Leader of the House responded by stating that Kharge deviated from constitutional issues and began discussing sensitive operational details not aligned with the permitted scope.Amid repeated interventions, the Chair clarified that the government is not avoiding discussion and emphasized that a wrong message should not go out to the nation. The government assured that every aspect of Operation Sindoor would be transparently presented and that they are fully prepared to answer all questions. It was also highlighted that this kind of operation under Prime Minister Modi's leadership is unprecedented since India’s independence. As tensions rose, references were made to statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump on India-Pakistan ceasefire efforts. Due to the uproar, both Houses were adjourned temporarily and scheduled to reconvene at 12 PM. The issue has now become a major political flashpoint between the ruling party and the opposition.
