‘There’s a zing to theatrical releases’: Aditya Roy Kapur reflects on big screen return with ‘Metro... In Dino’

Aditya Roy Kapur created waves in Bollywood when he made his debut as lead actor in the romantic drama flick Aashiqui 2. And while the path for him was laid out, starring in hits like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Malang, and Ludo, recent times have not been too kind to the actor.
Following a string of underwhelming box office outings, Kapur has now made a strong comeback in his recent release Metro... In Dino. Kapur, whose last theatrical success came with his 2020 flick Malang, is relishing the taste of success once again. Speaking to Hindustan Times, the 39-year-old weighed in on the pressure of box office performance. “Anytime something opens in a theatre, you want it to do well. Film is a commercial enterprise, and you want it to do well for everyone involved, for the producers and everyone who’s worked on it. But at the end of the day, you do have to let go, irrespective of how the film does,” the The Night Manager said. “Although there is an added zing to a theatrical release that is not so apparent when something releases on OTT. On web, you're relaxed a little bit more, which is fun and which is why we do this.”

While talking about being back on the big screen, Kapur expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to work with Ludo director Anurag Basu again and was excited to get the call from the filmmaker. “Having your film in the theatre is an amazing feeling, and it's great to have that happen. I was so excited to be back with Dada (Basu) and doing another film with him. We had such a great time on Ludo, but it felt like it was not complete. It felt like there was more to explore, so when he called about this film and told me the ideas that he had for this track, and for this character, it was very exciting, and I just wanted to get back on set with him,” the actor said.
