Now, BMHRC To Use Cryostat Machine Which Plays Crucial Role In Cancer Surgery

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state-of-the-art cryostat machine, which helps in making quick decisions during surgeries for serious diseases like cancer, is now available at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC).

Director-in-Charge of BMHRC, Dr. Manisha Srivastava, inaugurated the machine. This machine will help surgeons make better decisions during operations.

Head of the Pathology Department at BMHRC, Dr. Honey Gulwani, said that this machine immediately cools the tissue removed during surgery and prepares its microscopic slide, which the pathologist can examine right away using a microscope.

This process is called a "frozen section." Its specialty is that the report is ready in a few minutes, whereas in traditional biopsy, it takes several hours or even days for the report to arrive.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Cancer Diseases at BMHRC, Dr. Sonvir Gautam, said that the cryostat machine is especially useful in cancer surgeries.

For example, if it is necessary to know during surgery whether the removed tumor is cancerous or not, then the report can be obtained immediately by testing the tissue.

If cancer is confirmed, the surgeon can proceed with further procedures during the same operation. This can save the patient from undergoing re-surgery and improve the quality of treatment. It also spares the patient unnecessary pain, additional expenses, and a prolonged treatment process.
