Retd cops protest in Fatehabad, demand withdrawal of FIRs in Hisar DJ clash case
Members of the Retired Police Employees Association staged a protest in Fatehabad on Monday demanding the withdrawal of FIRs registered against on-duty police personnel from Hisar’s 12 Quarters police chowki.
The FIRs were filed following a violent clash over loud music being played during a late-night birthday party on July 7. Around 11:30 pm, police were called to stop loud DJ music being played in Hisar’s 12 Quarters area, which violated night-time restrictions. According to the association, a known history sheeter led a group that attacked the police officers with bricks. The police team was allegedly assaulted, had their uniforms torn and was even held hostage briefly. Despite this, FIRs were filed against the officers, something the association claims happened under external pressure.
The situation took a tragic turn when, during the chaos, two teenage boys jumped from a rooftop. One of them, Ganesh, later died. His family accused the police of pushing the boys, a claim that added further tension to the case.
At Fatehabad on Monday, the protesters submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Kaur and Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain calling for the cancellation of the FIRs.
They urged the Haryana Government to implement stricter laws to ensure the safety of police officers, who they say are increasingly being targeted while on duty. Association president Randhir Dabas, along with senior members Surender Pal, Hetram Bishnoi and Virendra Kumar, raised concerns about the growing number of incidents involving abuse and attacks on police personnel. “These repeated confrontations damage the morale of the force and embolden anti-social elements,” said Dabas. “Police officers and their families are now living in fear,” he said. The association claimed that police are often harassed by locals, and in some cases, false complaints, including those involving women, are made to malign their image and mislead senior authorities.
