54th KVS National Sports meet concludes at LPU
The 54th KVS National Sports meet, held at Lovely Professional University (LPU), concluded with a grand closing ceremony. Over 1,700 players from 25 regions of Kendriya Vidyalayas across India competed in under-14 and under-17 girls’ categories for handball, kho-kho, volleyball, and shooting.
The event was graced by Padma Shri awardee and Mr. Universe 1988, Premchand Degra. Former Mr. India winners Vijay Kumar and Harwinder also attended as guests of honour. The gathering was officially welcomed by Preeti Saxena, Deputy Commissioner, KVS RO Chandigarh.
The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a ceremonial march past showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity and sporting spirit. Addressing the participants, Premchand Degra motivated the players, stating, “This competition not only promotes sportsmanship but also provides an important platform for players to develop the spirit of nationalism.”
Cultural performances included a traditional Punjabi folk dance by students of KV Suranussi and a melodious song by students of PM SHRI KV No 2, JRC, both widely appreciated by the audience.
Outstanding players were honoured with medals, trophies, and certificates by Preeti Saxena, P.C. Tiwari (Assistant Commissioner, RO Chandigarh), Premchand Degra, and other dignitaries.
In the handball girls’ under-14 category, Jaipur emerged national champions, with Hyderabad finishing as first runner-up. In the under-17 category, Patna defeated Jaipur to claim the title. Bengaluru dominated both under-14 and under-17 kho-kho girls’ categories, securing national titles through strength and agility. In volleyball, Bengaluru won the under-14 category against Chennai, while Ernakulam took the under-17 title.
In shooting events, Shreya Dewangan (Raipur), Neha Mandavi (Raipur), and Sivapriya (Chennai) secured gold in the under-14, 17, and 19 Open Sight categories. Gold in the Peep Sight categories went to Ashwini Chouhan (Bhopal), Himani Singh (Jaipur), and Lavanya Rawat (Silchar).
The 10M Air Pistol under-14, 17, and 19 winners were Raghvi Gurjar (Bhopal), Vidhi Sharma (Jaipur), and Raman Rana (Agra). P.C. Tiwari expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their cooperation in the smooth conduct of the event. The meet concluded with the flag unfurling and the official announcement marking its closure.
