Construction worker electrocuted in Kapurthala

A construction worker was seriously injured after coming in contact with a high voltage power line during road construction work in Parvez Nagar village, Kapurthala. The victim, identified as Vicky from Subhanpur village, was operating a mixing machine when the incident occurred.

According to witnesses, Vicky was standing on the machine when he accidentally touched an overhead high voltage wire passing directly above the work site. He was electrocuted and immediately fell to the ground unconscious. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby.

Members of the local gram panchayat, who were present at the scene, rushed Vicky to the emergency ward of the Kapurthala Civil Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition remains critical but stable, hospital sources said.

Village sarpanch Jaswinder Singh stated that the panchayat, along with local residents, had urged Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to raise the height of the dangerously low-hanging power lines. “We have submitted several complaints, but the authorities failed to take any preventive measures,” he said.

The sarpanch has now demanded immediate action from the electricity board to elevate the power lines in Parvez Nagar to avoid mishaps. “This incident could have been avoided. Immediate corrective measures are necessary to ensure the safety of workers and residents,” Singh emphasized.

Other panchayat members present at the site included Satbir Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Harmeet Singh, Amandeep Singh, Bagga Singh, and Navroop Singh echoed the need for urgent intervention by the power department.
